National Yoga Awareness Month
September is National Yoga Awareness Month.
National Yoga Awareness Month was started in 2008 by the US Department of Health and Human Services. It is an initiative to raise awareness about the benefits of yoga.
Yoga has lots of benefits. National Yoga Awareness Month strives to introduce people to the wide range of benefits that yoga offers:
Physical Benefits
Mental Benefits
Reduced Stress
Increased Calm
Increased Nutrition Awareness
Increased Focus & Concentration
Enhanced Longevity
Increased Flexibility
Enhanced Quality of Life
To honor National Yoga Awareness Month:
spend a little more time on your yoga mat or on your meditation cushion
Read some of the Yoga Sutras or some other class yoga text
Practice some asanas that you don’t practice often
Hold some of your favorite asanas longer
Focus on one aspect of your asana practice such as body alignment or breath
Introduce a friend or family member to the wonders of yoga
Yoga is a very personalized practice. It is the bringing together of you with your true self.
Yoga is a practice of self discovery and self refinement.
Yoga starts with the physical and turns inward.
Yoga is a “work in” not a “work out.”
Share this gift with yourself and others during National Yoga Awareness Month.
